Twenty years ago was the last (and only) time that a justice of the Tennessee Supreme Court was non-retained. That was justice Penny White. She is now a professor at the University of Tennessee and in a recent interview discussed what happened then...and how it pertains to what is underway now.
Here is a link to an interview with former Justice Penny White: interview link.
In the interview she talks about the eerie similarities between what is underway now and what she faced 20 years ago.
Personal message from T. Verner Smith:
There are a number of candidates on the ballot on August 7. The appellate court judges will appear at the bottom of the ballot. I encourage you to get out and vote in this election and to be sure to go to the bottom of the ballot andvote “Retain” for our appellate judges to keep Tennessee’s courts fair.
Remember, the election is on August 7th.
