Bus lawsuit good example of accountability keeping us safer

October 16, 2014

Bus lawsuit in Illinois a good example of why such suits are important.

Earlier this week, dozens of people were hurt when a megabus carrying about 60 passengers crashed during a driving rain storm near Greenwood Illinois at 4:30 in the morning. Six passengers were admitted to the trauma center. Four of the passengers have already filed a lawsuit.

According to the lawsuit, the bus driver told passengers the windshield wipers were malfunctioning. The emergency legal motion also asked the judge to have a protective order entered to preserve the crashed bus, any parts, and any correspondence between the company and the bus driver. More lawsuit details here.

In our opinion, when passengers of a bus pay to use the vehicle for transport, they have a reasonable expection that their trip will be safe. If the bus driver, who represents the bus company, continues to operate the vehicle in an unsafe environment with faulty equipment...and harm comes to the passengers, the driver and the company that trained the driver should be held accountable.

Lawsuits such as these help make everyone's life a little safer. When companies are held to safety standards, and are severely penalized when they violate these standards...it helps to maintain a safer environment for all of us.
