Ford recalls over 500,000 vehicles after doors could suddenly open while in motion

May 1, 2015

Ford Motor Company has expanded their recall of small and midsize cars to replace door latches that may not stay closed.

The recall now covers over 540,000 Ford Fusions and Lincoln MKZs from the 2013 and 2014 model years, as well as Ford Fiestas from 2011 to 2014.

Ford says a broken spring part could prevent the doors from latching properly. The doors could also unlatch while the cars are in motion, increasing the risk of injury or death. Ford has reported two minor injuries from unlatched doors that bounced into people when they tried to close them and one crash after a door opened and hit another vehicle in a parking lot.

Dealers will replace all four door latches for free.
