Help for 150+ families affected by Dyersburg plant closing

November 19, 2015

The upcoming closure of the Sun Products plant in Dyersburg will likely seriously affect the financial well being of over 150 families in the region.

The plant closure is expected just before Christmas, after company executives explained that consumer demand for powdered detergents has fallen dramatically over the last few years. Soon to be unemployed workers were offered the option to apply for possible positions at another Sun location in Bowling Green. The option just isn't feasible for most, as they would be required to either move to Kentucky or try to embark on a 6-hour round trip journey each workday.

Other jobs in the region are scarce, or even if found will likely be lower wage jobs with fewer hours and benefits. The result is that over 150 families in the area will be hit hard economically.

At the law office of T. Verner Smith, we offer consultations for debt resolutions and oftentimes are able to reduce a family's debt load without pursuing bankruptcy protection. If it is determined that bankruptcy is your best option, we can work with you in that regard as well.
