Popular Christmas toy causing house fires & ER visits! Is your family at risk?

December 15, 2015

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced they are immediately investigating numerous reports of emergency room visits and house fires caused by one of the most popular toys on Christmas lists this year.

The toy referred to as a 'hoverboard' (it doesn't actually hover, but is more of a cross between a skateboard and a Segway), has reportedly caused at least 29 emergency room visits and 11 fires. The problem appears to be the lithium batteries associated with the units. Airlines have now banned them from all flights, and Amazon and Overstock websites have removed nearly all of them from their electronic shelves.

Multiple companies are producing and selling the items, and the concern is that either several are skirting requirements or that the product idea itself is faulty. Either way, consumers appear to be in danger. Read more about the safety commission's concerns here.
