Star Trek actor's parents to file wrongful death suit over Jeep shifter problem. Do you drive one?

August 2, 2016

The parents of actor Anton Yelchin are filing a wrongful death lawsuit against Fiat Chrysler, who they blame for his death. Yelchin died in June when he was crushed by his Jeep Grand Cherokee in the driveway of his home. The 27 year old actor portrayed Chekov in the recent Star Trek movies.

The actor's vehicle was subject to a recall due to a gear shifter design that is confusing to consumers. Thus far, over 250 crashes resulting in more than 65 injuries have been blamed on the shifter. The SUV is part of a worldwide recall in April of 1.1 million vehicles by Fiat Chrysler. Vehicles included in the recall are the 2012-14 Dodge Chargers and Chrysler 300s, and 2014-15 Jeep Grand Cherokees featuring the shifter. The company says it has been speeding up the recall procedure of the vehicles.

Meanwhile, a class action lawsuit from a number of families impacted by the shifter issue has been filed.
