Last week's recall of several Aunt Jemima frozen products opened the door for the parent company, Pinnacle Foods, to go ahead and drop 16 Aunt Jemima frozen products altogether.
Last Friday, the company issued a voluntary recall of several products after a potential listeria contamination.
Monday, the company announced it would drop frozen waffles, french toast slices, and 13 other products for good. Unfortunately, according to news reports, that has also expedited massive layoffs at the Jackson Tennessee plant that manufactured those products.
The company plans to maintain a smaller, more premium Aunt Jemima product line (french toast sticks, breakfast entrees, and Griddle Poppers). Apparently those products won't be made at the Jackson facility with as much fervor.
News reports say local workers were called into a meeting Tuesday to inform them of the decision to lay off as many as 200. Pinnacle has confirmed layoffs will occur, but has not confirmed that number. The Jackson Chamber of Commerce website says Pinnacle employs 450, before this layoff announcement.
