$6 million settlement to family of teen killed by city vehicle

October 15, 2018

A settlement of $6 million has been agreed to by the family of Andres Perez and the city of Los Angeles.

In 2015, 17 year old Andres was crossing an intersection at Highland Park and was struck and killed by a city truck driven by David Francis.

Attorneys for the Perez family sued the driver and the city, claiming the employee was “unfit and unqualified” to drive the vehicle, had driven the truck in a reckless manner, and that the intersection where the accident occurred was “dangerously defective.”

The city council voted 11 to 0 to approve the payment last Wednesday (10/10).  Read more about the settlement here.
