Sears had 1,980 stores nationwide in 2013. Today that number has been reduced to 899, and another round of closings has been announced for this summer. 40 more Sears locations will shutter their doors in August. Did the Old Hickory Mall location in Jackson survive the cut? The short answer is yes. See the entire list of upcoming closings here.
The long answer, however, is that each location is coming under financial scrutiny by the company's accountants and Sears appears quick to pull the trigger on any store that is struggling. How the Jackson location is performing is anyone's guess, but there is no doubt all of the properties are under intense pressure to generate a profit. The recent closing of KMart in Jackson was the result of the company's belt tightening (KMart is owned by Sears), and we can only hope that Sears survives future cuts.
