Wall-mounted shower seats recalled after collapses cause 23 injuries

December 7, 2018

Over 7,000 wall-mounted shower seats are being recalled after almost 200 reports of collapses, resulting in nearly two dozen injuries.

The Signature Hardware brand

of wall-mounted, folding shower seats are being recalled. These specific seats, made of teak wood slats, are joined together by support rods that extend from two wall mounting brackets. The recalled shower seats have brushed nickel, chrome or oil-rubbed bronze finishes on the support rods and bracket covers. Speculation is that long term exposure to shower water causes some of the components to corrode and weaken. The shower seats measure 16 inches wide by 13.5 inches deep, with a width of 11.75 inches between the centers of the wall mounting brackets. SKU number 917726 is printed on purchase receipts and email order confirmations.

According to the Consumer Products Safety Commission, "Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled shower seats and contact Signature Hardware to receive a full refund."
